2009 Sister-Cities 25th Anniversary Festival

The Annual Gala dinner of Thessaloniki Association will be held at Hawthorn Receptions on Saturday 21st November 2009 this year. Get your tickets early because there are limited seats available. Judging by the number of participants other years the demand for tickets will be great.
The Annual Sister-Cities Festival is on Sunday 22nd November at Federation Square in Melbourne. You will need to visit this Festival where more than 40000 people attend each year. You are our special guest. Government representatives from Melbourne Victoria and Thessaloniki Macedonia will be present. Many dancing groups, food stalls, arts and crafts, giveaways, music and entertainment like every year. Do not miss it.

A' Πανελλήνιο Κάλεσμα Μικρασιατών Καππαδοκών
Στις 25 Ιουλίου 2009, έγινε η πρώτη συνάντηση Μικρασιατών από την Καππαδοκία, μετά από 85 χρόνια από τον ξεριζωμό των προγόνων τους από τη Μικρά Ασία. Η συνάντηση έγινε στο Ξηροχώρι Θεσσαλονίκης και είχε τίτλο "1ο Πανελλήνιο Κάλεσμα Καππαδοκών". Στο κάλεσμα αυτό προσφωνήθηκαν και σύλλογοι που υποστηρίζουν την προσπάθεια των αδερφών μας Μικρασιατών.
Ανάμεσα στα ονόματα των οργανισμών που αναφέρθηκαν από το χοροδιδάσκαλο κύριο Β. Σιδηρόπουλο και χειροκροτήθηκαν από το κοινό, ήταν και η Ένωση Θεσσαλονικέων "Ο Λευκός Πύργος", μια και αντιπροσωπευόταν στην εκδήλωση από τον αντιπρόσωπό της τον κύριο Σταύρο Ανθόπουλο.
Από τη δική μας πλευρά, η Ένωση Θεσσαλονικέων ανταποδίδει τα συγχαρητήρια, την αγάπη και τους πατριωτικούς χαιρετισμούς από τη μακρινή Αυστραλία. Είμαστε υπερήφανοι που είμαστε Έλληνες και όλοι φέρνουμε μια μικρή Ελλάδα μέσα μας όπου κι αν βρεθούμε, όσα κι αν υποφέρουμε.

O Αποκριάτικος Χορός έγινε στο εστιατόριο Natalia που βρίσκεται δίπλα στο κτίριο της Ένωσης, 435 High Street, Northcote, την Παρασκευή 27 Φεβρουαρίου και ώρα 7.30μ.μ. Το εισιτήριο ήταν $45 και όλοι όσοι παρευρέθηκαν με τις οικογένειες και τους φίλους τους έμειναν κατευχαριστημένοι.

The Apokries Day will be part of the City of Darebin's Kite Festival. We expect that it will be a enormous success. Kite Flying, Greek music, Greek dancing, free lagana bread and halva, and lots of fun. Starts at 10.00am and goes to 5.00pm on the day.
Το 2008 η Ένωσή μας καθιέρωσε να εορτάζει και την καθαρά Δευτέρα με χαρταετούς, λαγάνες, χαλβά, πολλά παιχνίδια για τα παιδιά, ελληνική μουσική, χορευτικά συγκροτήματα και χορό. Εφέτος το Φέστιβαλ Αποκριάς θα έχει μεγαλύτερη επιτυχία γιατί θα γίνει σε συνεργασία με το City of Darebin στο Edwards Lake Park, Reservoir (Mel Ref. 18 D4) στις 1 Μαρτίου, από τις 10.00 το πρωί μέχρι και τις 5.00 μ.μ. Εκεί θα γίνει και ο διαγωνισμός με χαρταετούς όπου οι τρεις πρώτοι θα λάβουν χρηματικά βραβεία. Θα πάρουν μέρος σ’ αυτό το Φεστιβάλ πολλές εθνικότητες της περιοχής και ασφαλώς η Ένωσή μας θα αντιπροσωπεύει την Ελληνική Παροικία. Ο διαγωνισμός θα γίνει στις 1.30 το μεσημέρι. Στην επιτροπή θα είναι Έλληνες και ξένοι πολιτικοί. Σας προσκαλούμε λοιπόν να παραβρεθείτε για ένα αποκριάτικο ξεφάντωμα μαζί με τα παιδιά και τα εγγόνια σας.
Εμείς πάντως, τώρα που σταμάτησαν οι χοροί αυτό κάναμε...

One of Greece’s most acclaimed artists is set to hit our shores in May 2009. Yiannis Ploutarhos has long held an obsession for Australia, the country and most importantly the Australian Greeks. His ambition for many years was to hold a charity concert in Australia and donate the money to a Greek Australian cause. True to his word, Yiannis Ploutarhos will be performing 2 charity concerts – one in Melbourne at the Rod Laver Arena and the other in Sydney at Homebush, where he will not be paid for either event. Monies raised will be used to purchase or build a large home to house kids with special needs within the Greek Australian community. Agapi Care Inc is a non profitable agency that will be maintaining the home and caring for children with disabilities. The home will be put into a trust never to be sold and will always carry the Ploutarhos legacy as well as all other contributors. Thessaloniki Association has a number of cheap tickets available for use by our members. Please get in contact with us if interested.

Thessaloniki Association “The White Tower” presents “The New Acropolis Museum” in Athens, a lecture by Academic Mr Kyriakos Amanatidis.
A video of the Museum will be screened, the technical presentation of which will be by Mr Iakovos Garivaldis.

Thessaloniki Association “The White Tower” in conjunction with Cyprus Bank in Australia, are organizing a special function for all the children in our community. Presents will be distributed and there will be food and refreshments for all children present.

Thessaloniki Association “The White Tower” (Association), in association with the Philanthropic Association of the Prefecture of Imathia “, Verria” are holding their Annual Dinner Dance at Hawthorn Receptions, 555 Glenferrie Road, Hawthorn. Officials from both the Greek and Australian Governments will be present.
The Association’s Dance Group will perform traditional Greek Dances.
Popular Greek singer Kostas Kanias will also perform, having been invited by the Association to participate in the 25th Anniversary of the Thessaloniki/Melbourne Sister City Celebrations. The group “Melbourniotes” will also perform on the night.

The annual festival of the Thessaloniki Association “The White Tower”, celebrating the 25th Anniversary of the Sister City relationship Thessaloniki/Melbourne will again be held at Federation Square in Melbourne.
The program will include dance groups, performances, live music, food and drinks. The Florinian Choir will present a special program of songs for Thessaloniki.
Also performing will be the band “Melbourniotes”.
The official proceedings will be at 5.00 pm on the main stage.
Following the speeches, our special guest singer Kostas Kanias from Thessaloniki will perform his own songs and other popular Greek songs.
Kostas Kalimnios will be the Master of Ceremonies for the event.
The whole event will be screened on the internet on the Federation Square website
