In June 2004 the former Premier, The Hon. Steve Bracks, announced the establishment of an annual schools
competition where Year Nine students could submit entries ranging from poems to
essays that explore what the “Spirit of ANZAC” means to young people and
communities today. Student winners then
travel on an international Study Tour to sites of significance to Australian
service men and women. The inaugural
Study Tour was conducted in April 2005 and travelled to sites in

In June 2007, the Victorian Spirit of ANZAC Prize was
promoted to all government, independent and catholic secondary schools
throughout

Following
extensive deliberations, the Central Selection Panel selected the ten
students to travel on the 2008 Study Tour.
In summary there are 8 female and 2 male students, from 5 metropolitan
and 5 regional locations, representing 4 Government, 3 independent and 3 catholic
schools.
